SECA's fourth annual "Family of the Year Award"

The Southern End Community Association (SECA) is honored to present the Kowal Family of Peach Bottom with SECA’s fourth annual “Family of the Year Award.”

Kevin and Kerri Kowal have been part of the Solanco community for 6 years. Kevin grew up north of Lancaster and Kerri is from upstate New York.  They currently have three children and another one on the way! Kalvin is the oldest at 6 ½ years old, Lukas is 4 ½, and Oliver is 2.

Over the past few years, the Kowal’s have participated in a wide variety of programs that SECA offers.  Kalvin, being the oldest has tried almost everything SECA offers. He participated in Start Smart Soccer, T-Ball, and Football as a pre-schooler.  Now older, he participates in SECA Karate with Riehl Martial Arts, Winter Indoor Soccer, and Beginner In-Line Hockey. And he also was involved with SECA’s Charles X. Carlson Summer Art Program and SECA Swim Lessons this past summer.  Lukas has also tried Swim Lessons, Start Smart Soccer and T-Ball and is currently still looking for his favorite sport! Oliver being the youngest has one more year before he can participate in SECA programs.

Kevin and Kerri are both very active within the community. Kevin has been SECA’s volunteer coach for Beginner In-Line Hockey for 2 years running and has built a great program for young hockey players. He also continues to play ice hockey at Regency Ice Rink in Lancaster. Kerri also volunteers her time by being a Story Time volunteer at the Quarryville Library.  The family also stays busy raising goats, pigs, and chickens at their home in Peach Bottom!

The Kowal’s stated that they are honored to receive this award and to be a part of SECA and the Solanco community. They are also excited to continue to see SECA grow over the years.

The SECA “Family of the Year” Award was created in 2005 to recognize a family who participates in SECA Programs, supports the Solanco Community, and who best represents the philosophies of the SECA, which are family, community, volunteerism, health, and recreation.  These qualities are very true of the Kowal family. 

The Southern End Community Association congratulates the Kowal Family as the 2008 SECA “Family of the Year.””
